Perhaps your child has been ill since birth.

Perhaps your child was completely healthy until a few days or weeks ago.

Perhaps you have known in your heart that something has been wrong for a long time but no-one would listen to your concerns about your child and you've had to fight and battle to be heard.

Now you know for certain and your world has been turned upside down.

You want to give your child the best possible of quality of life but everything is such a mess you don't know where to begin. Part of you is still certain the diagnosis is wrong, while another part of you is equally sure it's right. You are so tired that sometimes you want it all to go away.

You look at other families, their children happy and healthy and you envy them even though you would never love your own child any less.

The thought that your child may die before they get a chance to live a life, or that their life is never going to be the same as that of healthy children is something you can't bear to contemplate.

Even though you know it's not your fault, you feel so guilty and helpless.

You can't sleep, you can't eat, you replay what the doctor said over and over in your head.

Your Child Has Been Diagnosed With A Life-Changing Illness Or Condition

Rebuilding your life after finding out that your child has a life-changing or terminal illness is never easy. But it can be done. It is never about saying that what's happened is somehow OK. It's all about finding  ways to adapt and continue despite what's happened.

If you are experiencing symptoms like these, do see your GP as well as there may be additional treatment, help and support available to you.

Please contact the Project if you think you might benefit from some trauma counselling .
